Direct answer
The official update record shows a clear progression from new areas and automation, through the engine migration, to the 1.0 systems. Use the version of the save and the installed game build when reading older guides: a feature listed in a historical patch note is not automatically a current unlock requirement.
Version timeline
0.11.4 — early stability and invalid-save handling
The first official patch focused on stability, early NPC and equipment adjustments, and crash fixes. It also changed invalid-save startup behavior to show an invalid-save popup instead of crashing. See the dedicated 0.11.4 page for the Steam Cloud and old-save boundary.
0.11.6–0.11.7 — customization and crash follow-up
The 0.11.6 notes add pronoun, hair, and eye-color choices, faster quantity changes in shopping and crafting, and several recipes. The 0.11.7 follow-up targets crashes involving out-of-bounds animals, Mines seals, and the Unusual Tree cutscene. These details remain historical 0.11.x context.
0.12.2–0.12.3 — winter rendering, requests, and follow-up fixes
The 0.12.2 notes cover winter visuals, home collision, Crown Request wording, Legendary fish, performance regressions, and several crash paths. The 0.12.3 follow-up corrected starter-home collisions, Shooting Star Festival recipe unlocks, Plum tree placement, and passing out without a bed.
0.13.2 — small accessibility and furniture update
The 0.13.2 notes add Lava Caves furniture and clarify that Day Time Speed is adjusted in the in-game Accessibility settings, taking effect after sleeping. Do not turn that historical note into a current-build assumption without checking the installed version.
0.13.0 — Lava Caves, Deep Woods, pets, and farm expansion
The official second-major-update notes added the Lava Caves (Mines floors 61–80), the Deep Woods, the Animal Festival, pets, the farm expansion, Elsie’s gift-hint gossip mechanic, sprite statues, and the Stone Refinery Town Repair questline. The same update also raised the Renown cap to 90 and added new requests, museum sets, perks, and a time-speed setting.
This is useful historical context for old progression guides: a pre-0.13 guide can omit the areas, pets, or automation systems entirely. The notes also say that some unlocks are immediately available in an existing save when their requirements were already met; do not infer a universal day or quest number from the patch summary.
0.13.3 — farm safety, recipes, and crash fixes
The 0.13.3 follow-up added more furniture and animal cosmetics, made Saturday Market recipe stock reliable, and added an Oversleep Penalty setting. It also fixed animals spawning outside the expanded farm, missing building storage chests, Request Board refreshes, and several pet, festival, store, and crash edge cases.
0.14.0 — dating, greenhouses, and the Harvest Festival
The official third-major-update notes added 8-heart events, the Dating status and weekend dates, date photo cards, the Fall 10 Harvest Festival, new Saturday Market vendors, and purchasable greenhouses. They also raised the NPC heart cap to 8 and documented new skill perks, a Museum set, new Lava Caves monsters, and a large set of quality-of-life and crash fixes.
The notes include explicit unlock conditions for the Saturday Market and Carpenter’s Shop upgrades. Those historical conditions should not be copied into a current checklist without checking the installed version and the current quest state.
0.14.1–0.14.4 — relationship, feedback, and stability follow-ups
The 0.14.1 notes fixed shop pagination, relationship-route display, Adeline’s Dating regression, greenhouse water sprites, request-board reliability, animal feeding, and several save and festival crashes. The 0.14.2 feedback update added building translucency, a crafting MAX button, wood and stone bundles, skill progression adjustments, new storage icons and cosmetics, additional NPC dialogue, and many animal, quest, festival, and crash fixes. Its embedded 0.14.3 follow-up corrected over-tuned bug rates, restored farm bugs, added a low-storage save warning, and fixed several crash paths. The 0.14.4 notes then addressed Mines bug spawning, small-animal visuals, animal pathfinding, and Caldarus Beach Date crashes. The companion exposes 0.14.3 as a separate historical page while keeping the shared official source link visible.
These pages are intentionally version-labelled. They help interpret older saves and bug reports without turning historical fixes into current 1.0.x requirements.
0.15.0 — Ruins storyline completion and the secret romance route
The official fourth-major-update notes added the “Breaking the Ruins Seal” questline, the Ruins biome, completion of the Mines storyline, and a secret bachelorette who unlocks after that storyline. They also document a higher-priority hotfix and 0.15.1 fixes, including auto-feeder saving and a rare Small Coop crash.
Treat 0.15.x details as historical version context. The current site does not copy old quest gates into a 1.0 checklist without a current source.
0.15.2 — Mines quality-of-life and crash fixes
The official 0.15.2 notes added pet skins, Mines bait and pheromone behavior, seasonal cosmetics, the Hero’s Ring glow in Dark Floors, and additional NPC dialogue. They also document Lost and Found changes, Arena-floor behavior, auto-feeder handling, Secret Bachelorette festival crash fixes, and a hotfix for illegal coin items and the Seed of Balance.
This entry is a historical troubleshooting reference. It is not evidence that every listed fix or item is a current 1.0.2 progression requirement.
0.15.3 — recipes, Lava Caves, and routine fixes
The official 0.15.3 notes adjusted Lava Caves spawn rates, added Inn dishes and recipes, expanded Ruins chest drops behind named perks, and added Cherry/Lemon furniture and seasonal cosmetics. They also changed Glowberry Cookies delivery, Magic Key harvesting, Auto-Feeder stacking, Fish Bait recovery, and several NPC, festival-date, request-board, and routine fixes.
This entry remains historical context. It does not replace current recipe, drop, schedule, or progression records, and it does not imply that an old 0.15.3 condition is a current 1.0.x requirement.
0.16.2–0.16.5 — engine migration and stability follow-ups
The official 0.16.2 notes describe a migration to a new engine, performance and stability work, and Linux + SteamOS support. The Linux support statement is narrower than “every Linux distribution”: the official boundary names Steam Linux Runtime 4.0 (steamrt4) on SteamOS.
The 0.16.3–0.16.5 follow-ups document fixes for high-resolution performance, tearing and stutter, animal-heavy farm slowdowns, startup memory use, busy-area frame rate, saving crashes, menu softlocks, and the Animal Festival in later years. The companion keeps these as separate version-labelled pages so a player can match a report to the installed build. They also retain known-issue boundaries for some low-spec hardware and integrated GPUs. These notes explain why a player may see different troubleshooting advice across older guides, but they are not a guarantee of a fixed frame rate on every device.
1.0.0 — marriage, children, Town Repair, museum, and achievements
The official 1.0 patch notes confirm that the Town Repair storyline can be completed, Renown reaches 100, NPC hearts reach 10, proposal and wedding events are available, and children are added. The notes also add Stillwell and Zorel to the Saturday Market, make the Museum completable, and add Steam achievements with retroactive award behavior for existing saves.
The 1.0 feature list includes Mission Quests, Crystal Resonators and Song Crystals, exterior house customization after the house is fully upgraded, seven perks, the Engagement Ring craft path, proposal-event special items, wedding customization, optional family planning, pet skins, a Big Chicken mount, an additional post-Mines storyline, new requests, and two Museum sets. Several of these are gated by the player’s progression; this page does not turn them into save-specific instructions.
1.0.1 and 1.0.2 — compatibility, fixes, and ongoing support
The official 1.0.1 notes include a narrow fallback for invalid wallpaper decor from mods. The 1.0.2 notes add quality-of-life changes, performance work around overlays, translations, collision and progression fixes, and crash fixes, while stating that further performance and localization work remains. See the dedicated 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 pages for issue-specific boundaries.
How to use this timeline
- Check the installed version before following an old guide.
- Treat official patch notes as a record of what changed, not as proof that your save has unlocked every feature.
- For Linux or SteamOS troubleshooting, stay within the official Steam Linux Runtime 4.0 boundary.
- For a crash, mod issue, or missing unlock, record the version, platform, save age, and reproducible steps before reporting it.
This timeline intentionally excludes unverified item prices, exact NPC routes, map coordinates, farm footprints, and save-specific requirements. Those fields remain separate until they have current, field-level evidence.
Next step
If you are returning after a major update, check the installed version first, then use the dedicated 1.0, 1.0.1, 1.0.2, engine, and save-support pages for the system you are troubleshooting. Report a reproducible issue with the version and platform attached instead of applying a historical unlock rule to a current save.
